Okay, this is a fun movie if you like this sort of thing... I do like this kind of mash-up of goofy action/fantasy stuff, and I had a good time. There's nothing at all 'right' about it... the monsters (not just witches) behave in an entirely different way than any actual fairy tale, the crazy weapons and technology are just silly and do only what the screenwriters want them to do, and there are plot holes all over the place. However... good performances by all concerned. Renner and Atherton are appealing heroes and all the supporting cast join in with a will. The backgrounds and sets look good too... reminiscent of The Brothers Grimm and Van Helsing, but less messy and overdone. The movie deserves its 18A rating mainly for a lot of gory violence, a few f-bombs and a single fairly innocent scene of female nudity. The movie sets itself up for sequels and maybe a series... could be fun if the scripts keep coming.
