Click here to show this review. Two courageous and excellent portrayals by Streep and Jones. They made me laugh, cry and relate to the heart of the matter. It was nice to see Tommy Lee Jones in his romantic side; I too have always had a "crush" on him. They both spoke with their eyes, gestures, tears and laughter. It was very real; something I think a more mature audience could relate to. You need life experiences, self growth and evolvement to fully understand everything in this film. It starts off slow but gradually moves forward into something bigger and better assisted by Carell in his authentic role as the councellor. There were good messages here for short and long term relationships and how the little things can become big without striving for excellence even in your relationships. I think this film depicts true love at its best with all its ups and downs but attempts to keep the music going, no matter what. If it's the real deal, you can. It's about we and not I, so well portrayed in the characters' gradual growth with each other. It is the true meaning of intimacy with or without sex, only then can you have the playful stuff that is "true liking" and therefore love of one's partner for a long, long time. Yes older couples do have sex! It's a myth that they don't and they can be just as "kinky" as younger people but the mature love is what sustains you and this movie tells it like it is. My favorite line is at the end during the vows when Meryl talks about her biggest fear of not having enough time with her life partner. That line made me cry. Go see the movie. It will surprise you.
