I thought the plot was extremely interesting and that was my incentive to watch it on the big screen. It all started well but somewhere in the middle, they lost me. The endless barrage of noise, explosions, gun fire and general violence completely obliterated the fine balance between interesting, intelligent and complete nonsense. At times I felt I was watching a James Bond movie complete with massively armed villains who can never shoot straight and can't fight. I could not understand half of what Ken Watanabe (Saito) was saying which certainly doesn't help to grasp an already overly complex scenario. Tom Hardy was difficult to understand at times too. The special effects were fine and I would even say fantastic at times. Somebody mentioned feeling detached and unable to identify with any of the characters in the movie. You are not alone and there is a simple reason for this. None of the characters in this movie behave like normal human beings. Except maybe for Marion Cotillard (Mal), everybody else seems devoid of emotions or just about.

And why would they be without emotion if they were all in his mind (created or remembered)?
