Inglourious Basterds

Click here to show this review. A movie with a twist? Jews hunting Nazis? Sounds like a good premise for a film and it is, except for a couple of things. First the interviews between Colonel Hans Landa (beautifully and mesmerisingly played by Christopher Waltz) and his victims were long and drawn out as to be almost boring. Nevertheless, Waltz played his Nazi part better than Ralph Fiennes played his, as the camp commandant in Schindler’s list. Secondly, the star of the film, Brad Pitt, seemed to be play-acting throughout when the rest of the cast were acting their asses off. He could have phoned in his part with his amateurish accent that seemed to change depending on what scene he was playing. And those faces he pulled. What was he trying to do with his lower jaw? His part would have been better played by a George Clooney or a Clive Owen. The two female roles played by Melanie Laurent (as Shosanna Dreyfus, a young Jewish girl) and Diane Kruger (as Bridget Von Hammersmark, a double agent) put in creditable performances.
