    Kingsman: The Secret Service

Within the group of friends with whom I saw this movie, everyone enjoyed it to varying degrees, but what we all agreed upon was that Kingsman: The Secret Service is an extremely entertaining movie that is very fun to watch. While isn't a spy-genre spoof, it certainly pokes fun at spy films, with many self aware references that are very funny. The story itself is nothing more than a typical "super-spy origin story", but it is told in such away that you forget about the fact that you've seen this before, and instead get wrapped up in the action, humor, and characters. The lead character of "Eggsy" is portrayed by Taron Egerton in a performance that will hopefully land him more roles in high profile films. As a character, Eggsy develops his character arc while remaining relatable and funny, making it easy to root for him. Colin Firth is also great in his role, and his character acts as the father figure in the story. He's that character that makes you know that everybody else is safe when he's around. However, my favourite character/performance has to be Samuel L. Jackson as the villain. His character is so funny, that the audience laughed every time he spoke a line (not just because of a lisp, but also due to the total irony of the character) The action is exciting; heart pounding and while not gritty nor cartoony, it is fun. The violence does not seem gratuitous, with the exception of two big scenes, one of which was more funny than shocking. My gripes with the movie were minor. You get the typical "okay, how did he not get shot there? Those bad guys have terrible aim!" and "well, that is certainly pushing it into the realm of sheer impossibility." But Kingsman: The Secret Service isn't a movie that is supposed to be taken seriously, and instead is just meant to entertain; even if that means the occasional plot hole, or characters doing flips and kicks in mid-air to a ridiculous degree. This is a very fun, exciting, and funny movie that I would definitely watch again, and one that I hope becomes a franchise.
