    Lawrence of Arabia

A large movie chain has been offering one 'classic' film per month at a few of their theatres over the past 1 1/2 years. Lawrence of Arabia, considered one of the greatest films ever made, is their latest offering. A new print, meticulously reconstructed, is being shown twice this week. The film is based on the life and exploits of T. E. Lawrence, a British archaeologist operating in the Middle East before and during World War #1. Director Sir David Lean and actors Peter O'Toole (England or Ireland? ), Omar Sharif (Egypt) & Anthony Quinn (Mexico) led the onslaught on just about every major awards poll in 1962, winning 7 Oscars. Being a bleeding heart liberal, I did not enjoy this film in 1962. Today I can enjoy the film for its artistry, although I recognize that the politics of many of the nations involved has not been radically altered.
