A living legend of French new wave cinema goes love-crazy with Wild Grass. There is even a quote from Flaubert:"No matter, we shall have loved each other." The 2 main characters are perplexing. The dentist-pilot and the mysterious middle-aged man undertake a sort of mating dance -but not quite. There is often no explaination for the characters' actions. The movie is contived but lifelike. The blades of grass emerging through the broken concrete is an interesting metaphor for change and the endless growth of life and nature. The film is playful, surreal and maddening and is not for all tastes.
