I went expecting something sensational because of all the hype this movie got and I was not disappointed whatsoever. By no means is it just entertainment, this movie is as raw and visceral as it gets. Shocking images, heartbreaking and heart wrenching. Some scenes were so intense they literally left me breathless, I caught myself a couple of times where I was truly holding my breath and I'm a pretty unflappable person. I personally believe it was about time that a movie was produced about this subject. I left the theatre in a very reflective state, I'd gone by myself, and it haunted me how in actuality these types of things go on in our society and we have no clue of the impact they can have on people's lives. I personally would not have wanted to be faced with such a desperate decision as was made by that mother. The acting was impeccable, Anne Dorval is already a superior actress here in Quebec, much sought after for her frank and gutsy representations, but I wager that this role will hoist her a few notches above to possibly superstardom. I will go back to see it because a few subtleties escaped me, notably some serious mystery around the neighbour lady who helps out. So I say go prepared but know that there is not a single dull moment in this movie that holds so much truth, it at times is almost unbearable.
