My wife remembered the Paddington Bear books and wanted to see the movie adaptation of them. So, we went to the theater and watched the movie. It was what you'd expect from a children's book: simple, obvious humor, predictable story, conventional characters and a cliched moral at the end. It was a distinctly unremarkable film. I wonder, then, at the high rating this movie has sustained. At most, it deserves a 7, not 8.9. You won't miss anything (except the expenses associated with attending the theater) if you wait to see this on DVD.
