Raanjhanaa

Brilliant movie-making. When this movie was announced, I was intrigued. Anand Rai had made a very entertaining and musically outstanding Tanu Weds Manu with a most unusual choice of heroine, Kangana Ranaut. Raanjhana upped my musical expectations as Rai roped in Rahman, the music maestro. Plus, the choice of Dhanush an unknown to me apart from Kolaver Di was odd. When the trailers started, I was hooked to the milieu and the songs grew on me, though I wondered if this would be yet another Hindu boy and Muslim girl story. Pleased to now conclude that nope that basic tale is just the beginning of this saga of flawed and normal humans in a very surreal world. Raanjhana has several huge plus points going for it. Mind-blowing performances from the entire cast led above all by Dhanush, who lives Kundan. A constantly changing plot line that goes from romance to drama to political commentary but meshes it all together perfectly with a comedic undertone. And of course, some of the best dialogues I've heard in a Hindi movie in eons. Himanshu deserves accolades and the movie deserves your money. Just be forewarned this is not a flick for typical Bollywood cinegoers.
