    Race

According to "History Versus Hollywood", this film is, in fact, historically accurate. But I felt that the objective of the film was to send a political message -- with the subtlety of a sledge hammer. And the price for emphasizing this message was to make the characters into caricatures. Nevertheless two messages came through to me:(1) In a time when racial discrimination was an accepted fact of life in the United States, Jesse Owens must have been a truly exceptional man to be able to meet his white coach and white colleagues as equals, and (2) support for the Nazi Party's white supremacist policies in Germany was by no means monolithic. Not a particularly "feel good" film, but interesting nonetheless.
