Ably backed up by Holly Hunter, John Goodman and the Nathan Jr. look-alikes, Nicolas Cage only had to sound like a wimpy loser to avoid destroying this film. Cage managed, thank you. Violence was inevitable as gun-toting criminals were present throughout the movie, but the Coens' absurdist humour and Methusela-toned one-liners ensured that it would be seen as a comedy, albeit a far out comedy. Beckett would have applauded.
