Quite incredible to get Jennifer and Bradley (now performing on Broadway in THE ELEPHANT MAN) together again for the 3rd time, this third film not in the superior category as SILVER LININGS and last year's AMERICAN HUSTLE. The film is not a bad one overall. I'm sure everyone was expecting a third humongous hit together. Be that as it may, the film has its moments, not the least of which is Jennifer's performance who on film or real life can compete with the best of any man. She is a force to be reckoned with, the BETTE DAVIS of the new millennium. Serena is a sprawling Pemberton family saga. I do stress saga with so much happening that I think it tends to overwhelm the viewer. George and Serena build an empire with an ultimate fate you will have to discover for yourself. The movie reminds me so much of an EDNA FERBER novel, the mighty American novelist of the first half of the 20th century, her themes always dealing with quite extraordinarily BIG IDEAS and IDEALS!
