This film is based on true life incidents and concerns ALVIN YORK who was a pacifist and refused to fight in WW I. When drafted he undergoes an epiphany of sorts and returns home an American hero for bravery in the WW I war. Cooper won a very well deserved Oscar for his role as the man who has a change of mind during the war against the Germans. Wholesome Joan Leslie was Mrs. York. The rights to the film were sold to Warner Brothers only on the condition that a very wholesome star would portray Mrs. Alvin York. A wholesome, wonderful, old time Hollywood film.
