Sherlock Holmes

Let me start my review with a complaint. We all now pay ten bucks to see movies. We don't pay ten bucks to watch commercials. These have insidiously increased in numbers. Additionally there are repeat commercials eg the beer one. Last night I went to Sherlock Holmes and the movie started a full 35 minutes after the initial commercials. We don't have the luxury of fast forwarding. As a consumer I would at least be warned of these ads and time my arrival accordingly. I was leaving the theater at 1:00AM. Now for the movie, it was a good one. You need to pay very close attention to all the dialog/details throughout which at times is very difficult due to its rapid development or dialog... The action scenes are full of grit and determination, as is the acting. Downey Jr plays the character very convincingly and his partner is a good foil. In fact all the characters are well cast and portrayed. When the movie wraps itself up you find that there were no insignificant scenes and that they are fraught with information no matter how casual the scene appeared. This movie will appeal to an older audience as most young people would prefer just eye candy like Avatar. Overall it is worth watching. The storyline is good and generally well paced. There are a few points that were unclear to me but perhaps I would need to watch it again to understand more fully, especially the lead female. So pay attention... lol.
