"I've heard about you.. yea.. go ahead.. make me laugh." A challenge. Everything is open to criticism. Each time I see THIS film the impossible happens: I like it more!
Director Billy Wilder left his birthplace in what is now Poland shortly after Hitler came to power in 1933, and eventually ended up in the U.S. He was writing for news journals at the time and in Hollywood he began by writing scripts. Wilder's caustic wit accomplished two things.. some in Hollywood loved him, others hated him. Many of his films were founded on criticism of what was currently accepted by society and even 'Some Like it Hot' took aim at those who frowned at 'cross dressing'. Wilder, both writer and director here, had the knack of making the audience examine some of its warts. However, this film also turned out to be a glorious delight to watch!
Marilyn Monroe at her most beautiful, most sensuous peak. Jack Lemon delivering lines as only a great actor can do. Tony Curtis in character playing a young man who loves his saxophone almost as much as he loves, well, love. I don't think a single member of the cast misses a beat and the film is a hoot!
