It makes perfect sense to me why Arnold would continue to push ahead with reinvigorating his film career even after several failures. After all, naysayers have been telling Arnold what he couldn't do his entire life and every time he's proved them wrong. For this, and for entertaining me throughout my youth with terrific action films, he will forever have my loyalty and respect. The original Terminator is my favorite amongst all of Schwarzenegger's films. Personally, I think it's the greatest pure Sci/Fi action movie ever made. Most people will point to T2 as the best of the series, they're wrong. Look at the groundbreaking liquid metal effects of T2 today and they seem kind of dated, whereas the original works as well as it ever did. This latest chapter Terminator: Genisys proves that it's possible to make a movie with a 150 million dollar price tag feel like one of those straight to DVD sequels you weren't aware existed. Now the movie isn't terrible, but it isn't particularly good either. There are some brilliant moments for fans of the series, as the film has great fun retracing/tweaking memorable scenes from the original so as to fit into its alternate timeline narrative. Yet just as those scenes will make fans smile, they are often followed by scenes that will make them cringe. The dialogue is especially bad, not helped by the fact that Jai Courtney and Emilia Clarke never really convince as Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor, though Clarke does bare a good resemblance to Linda Hamilton. As well, the film's big twist, which was incidentally revealed in the trailer, screams of series fatigue and a lack of imagination. By how it ends, it's clear this was meant to be the re-starting point for the franchise, with more planned sequels on the way. Arnold, please listen to me. Every man has his limits. You couldn't win Mr Universe now could you? Of course not. It doesn't mean you couldn't put forth an OK showing, but I never thought simply being OK was good enough for you. And even with a hefty budget, a young, attractive cast and all the shiny bells and whistles, that's all this film and others like it would be, just ok. You have nothing more to prove Arnold.
