One can take many pot shots at The Birth of a Nation as director D. W. Griffith took some extreme licence in telling this tale of the Civil War. I would never be able to give it a very high score as many of the ideas go against all that is part of me. However Griffiths's direction and his camera shots are brilliant. And it doesn't hurt to have the Griffith stable of stars do what they do perfectly.
