There has been a lot of buzz surrounding this film strange considering it sat on the shelf for a few years, which is usually an indication of lack of studio confidence. One can surely see why, for this horror/comedy hybrid is a tough sell for non horror buffs and will likely upset anyone who thought this was your typical slasher film. It's almost impossible to describe the plot of this film without giving too much away, let's just say it goes far beyond kids get killed in scary cabin in the woods. This is one of the more intelligently conceived horror films in recent memory, having great fun with stock characters and situations, plus it has two characters played by Bradley Whiteford and Richard Jenkins that are alone worth the price of admission. To explain their role in the film would be a sin, but how audiences respond to it is the key to whether or not they enjoy Cabin in the Woods or not. I thought it was hilarious, though others might not, it really depends. The big climax, sparked by a brilliant star cameo, is so surreal it almost defies explanation, it really must be seen. True horror fans will probably love this film, others will most likely hate it. For myself, love is a strong word, but it certainly enjoyed it.
