Something is definitely missing; good, solid writing and a better plot. The characters were well portrayed but I feel they could have had more depth. The whole film was kind of elusive to me. Javier Bardem excels in any role as does Michael Fassbender. (esp. at the end) I assured myself that this movie would be a "wow" due to the great cast. I was sorrily disappointed that I saw the film-would not recommend it. We've all heard about the goings on of the drug cartel; the brutality, greed, headless bodies and unimaginable, gruesome acts of inhumanity. Perhaps this movie was really only about this, made simple with a "it is what it is" stance. A different slant would have been more intriguing. The scene at the end with Brad Pitt was horrific to me; people just love sex and violence so this stuff really sells... We even witness apathy here. Our society has become desensitized to it all. We seem to be good at compartmentalizing everything in our lives, as do the characters in the film. Perhaps this is how we and the characters survive!
