    The Fault in Our Stars

I quite enjoyed the book The Fault in Our Stars, and when early reviews said that this film was a faithful adaptation of the source materiel, I started to get excited, and hopeful that this wouldn't be just another young adult book adaptation. While it is not the best movie out there, The Fault in Our Stars did what it should do; provide a faithful adaptation of the book, and be a good movie in its own right. Shailene Woodley stars opposite relative newcomer Ansel Elgort. While Elgort was very good in his role, it was Woodley who stole every scene she was in with a heartbreaking, yet funny performance. Willem Dafoe and Nat Wolff were also good in smaller roles, however none of the other actors, while not bad, really stood out or were memorable. The storytelling aspect of the film was handled well, as it was in the book. The film was very well paced, with the first few minutes, while slow, serving as necessary character set up. Without going into any spoilers, the heavy story elements of the last half hour of the movie were very well done, with the acting bringing together the emotional and touching scenes. I do not want to say too much about the movie, other than it was well acted, well directed, clever, funny, and emotionally moving. It held up to its popular source materiel, while still being very good on its own.
