"The New Guy" is just a lame predictable pseudo-raunchy comedy that doesn't have any new ideas. Although it isn't completely devoid of laughs it's not very good. It’s about a high school loser named Dizzy Gillespie Harrison (DJ Qualls) who embarrasses himself so bad his reputation can no longer be recovered (if he even had one to start) Dizzy comes up with the brilliant plan of leaving his high school, creating a new identity for himself and enlisting at East Highland High, where he will become the awesome “new guy”. But, how long before his dirty secrets are exposed?

Some of the jokes that will have you crying "Oh come ON!" out loud include our protagonist Dizzy getting his penis broken by a grabby cafeteria lady (and it gets caught on film by the rest of the school), Dizzy stealing a security camera from his school and rewiring it so he can place it in a washroom to show his peers their principal on the toilet (a security camera that comes complete with a microphone so we hear loud farting and bathroom sounds), Dizzy leading an army of football fans and cheerleaders while painted like Mel Gibson from "Braveheart" and a scene where he accidentally drives a motor bike off a ramp and landing it perfectly despite never having done it before (to the amazement of skateboard legend Tony Hawk! Woah!) The recurring jokes outlast their welcome, as if no one understood the basics of comedic repetition. There are a couple of twists that you won't see coming and despite the overall terrible script, I did find myself laughing a couple of times. I suppose you could said that it isn't completely devoid of charm but I don’t think even the intended audience will enjoy the film. It's not really raunchy (no R-rating for the teenage boys) and it’s too predictable, even if you haven’t seen the dozens of movies this is a watered-down version on (three guesses on whether or not this new identity will get exposed as a fake one by the end of the film)

If I say that "The New Guy" isn't all bad, I’m being really generous. Let’s just say that it’s about 70% percent bad. (On VHS, January 31, 2013)
