As many reviews have already pointed out, the Carpenter version is a horror film classic and this film had big shoes to fill. The first problem is the CG, impressive but lacks that organic reality and therefore not very suspenseful. The choice of a woman protagonist (yet another Ripley wielding a flamethrower), and the action is happening too fast, you don't really get into the story. It's just the way they make films these days, you don't get much developing story anymore. Enjoy all the CG and explosions, cause that's what you get - if you like that sort of... THING.
