Lillian Gish's final silent film appearance. She portrayed a woman in the desolate West who had two fears; the blowing wind and men. Director Victor Sjostrom, a compatriot of Ingmar Bergman, created special effects that could scarcely be improved on by to-day's CGI practitioners. With his sets screaming out hardship and loneliness, this haunting Western is not your typical cowboy fare, it is about living and staying alive in a hostile environment.
