How does one review Tusk? I mean, the movie is practically horribly crazy in every single way. Well, I'm making this review in my old way, just by stating the good and the bad, because I basically have no idea what to say. The "plot" follows a podcaster who gets kidnapped by a crazy old guy and gets transformed into a "walrus". There you go. THE GOOD :- Actually good acting. I didn't expect this from a movie of this genre, but Justin Long and Michael Parks actually give good performances. - The cinematography and musical score work very well. - There are a couple of really hilarious moments that had me laughing extremely hard. - This movie is surprisingly well directed. There are a couple of good shots. - The walrus suit is disturbing and just plain hilarious. - The first third is really great, super funny and entertaining. Then... it all goes bad. - The concept itself is pretty damn funny and weird. THE BAD :- To begin, the cameo that was supposed to be hilarious was not only incredibly stupid, but made the movie worse! - Around 75% of the jokes totally miss. For a "comedy", I laughed pretty rarely. And most of the times I did laugh, it was unintentionally. - The movie goes too over-the-top. Don't get me wrong, I love over-the-top gory movies, but this just became unbelievable and utterly stupid. I get that that's the point of the movie, but it just didn't work as well as it could have. - The pace is all over the place. The first third is fast-paced, the second third is extremely slow and the final third just zooms by. - The tone (s) just don't work. The horror and comedy never hit or blend well at all. The comedy wasn't funny and the horror aspects were just off-putting and not scary. - The movie became, dare I say it, boring! I was actually thinking about leaving the cinema before the movie ended because I didn't care about the plot or the characters. The walrus scenes were off-putting and dumb and the investigation scenes were boring. Overall, I don't know what to say about Tusk. It basically accomplishes what it's made to do, but that doesn't mean it's any good. Even though there were some very funny moments and the movie began well, it all turned into a boring and disturbing mess.
