Where to begin with this movie? In a lot of ways it is similar to the kind of film you'd expect from Kevin Smith. Lots of juvenile, profane dialogue sprinkled with occasional genius, lots of pop culture assassination etc. etc. However, what starts out as a pseudo comedy about a snyed, self important podcaster's search for F-upped material in Manitoba, turns into something utterly beyond criticism of any kind. The shift is weird and certainly original, yet just too ridiculous to be taken even remotely seriously, though I doubt Smith wanted you to anyway. Parks and Long are both terrific and no Smith script is ever without merit, but Tusk just never really works effectively as the comedy/horror hybrid it's trying to be.
