    Umrao Jaan

Very poor! The talented JP Dutta of years' past (courtesy Ghulami, Yateem, Hathyar and Batwara) has died. In his place remains a sad hack who only makes slow, nonsensical and boring movies (Refugee, LoC and now Umrao Jaan) This film is a little more bearable than his last two but given that it is based on such famed literature, and there is a classic past film that has already been made on the subject, the results are shameful. Aish's acting is ok and certainly not in the league of her Devdas Paro portrayal. But the film itself is just plain boring. Shabana Azmi, as usual, is the sole saving grace.
