This movie is mostly one-note. There is little relief from the constant, unrelenting scenes of atrocities and torture. I'm puzzled why Jolie was attacted to this material. What was the reason for the making of this movie? For sure, it is a powerful story of survival. But there is a missed opportunity here. Although, there is some lip service paid to reconciliation at the outset and a few slides refer to it at the end, Jolie fails to follow through with sufficient coverage of this theme and the audience is left chiefly with images of violence.
