I am not sure what all the animal cruelty comments are based on. All circuses have treated (and still do) their animals inhumanely. This movie had to portray the cruelty so that we could hate Ms Waltz. His role was well done but I couldn't help but picture him wearing a Nazi outfit as in Inglorious Basterds. Pattison is a good actor but this role was strikingly similar to his role in Remember me. A strong silent type who has trouble verbalizing his feelings. Weatherspoon was convincing and gorgeous. I think that the movie missed an opportunity to delve into the wondrous aspects of the circus. I thought at the beginning when Pattison joined the circus that his new-found joy for life would be enhanced by all the things that a circus would have for him. There was very little of this. As others have mentioned the chemistry between the two leads was lukewarm and not really developed. I did enjoy the movie as it has a feel-good ending. It simply needed more circus and more romance.
