Just as intensely as I hated the character of Terence Fletcher, I was enthralled by this movie. Truly the kind of film where the audience sits, breathless and gasping at the end - slowly processing the images just seen. The amazing J. K. Simmons grinds through this character with dizzying intensity. Miles Teller brings Andrew such determination and sensitivity as he strives to please his impossibly demanding mentor. The plot careens through twists and shocks, echoed by the audience's jumps and gasps at each turn. It's easy to see why this non-mainstream film earned a Best Picture nomination. In a season full of worthy contenders, this movie rises to the top of the pile.
