Greetings, this is The Movie Freak review! First of all, thank you to Cinemamontreal for giving me free passes as promotion to see the premiere at Cineplex Forum! Big thanks and love you very much :) Ok here is my review after watching it tonight. First of all, I was very excited to watch this movie when I knew it was Produced by the only one J. J. Abraham. I was very excited and high quite a high expectation... but that was the problem... my expectation were too high... well, everyone knows J. J. for Star Wars and Star Strek... I totally wanted to watch this movie because of him... BUT... I was disappointed in many ways... and happy... in some ways. Please allow me to elaborate. 1. Everyone watched the trailer so we all know what this is all about right? 3 people hidden in a bunker because something happened outside... and we know that this young girl Michelle ( Mary Elizabeth Winstead) suddenly look like a prisoner in the film... where we know this man Howard ( John Goodman) kept her in captivity for "unknown" reasons yet... ( for you to find out of course.) But along the movie, she meets this other man Emmet ( John Gallagher Jr.) who happens to be in the same position as her and both don't know what the hell is happening outside. Right. So I'll stop here about the story since that's how far you've seen in the trailer. Now here is what I like. 1. The actors were incredibly convincing and suited perfectly their respective role. I was "in" the movie the whole time because of their acting skills. Bravo! 2. I also loved the "idea" of being in a bunker with other people and not knowing what has happened outside. This idea, to me personally, reminded of all the Americans in 2012 who prepared for the end of the world by dec 21st ( and nothing happened lol) and you can all go to youtube watch all the videos on american stacking up food in their bunker along with their guns and other materials and items for when the worst happens. This movie got me hooked because of this "idea" of "what if"... what if it really happens in real life? You know what I mean.. ? What if someday ( and just by watching the news these days) a war just explodes between countries and you "really" need to hid somewhere ( for example: in a bunker with other people to survive the worst) in order to survive... this is I love the idea and the concept behind it. Good job. Now here comes the ugly parts and what I didn't like... 1. The script was based on a "déjà vu" factor of " mind games" for the audience to believe in what is to come. Let me elaborate, remember the movie Scream? When you all tried to guess who was the killer and the script acting was always making you beleive that " Oh... I know it's him now... Oh NO! I know it's him the killer... No wait... it's not him... it's the other dude who is the real killer!" But at the end, it just happen to be someone else because the whole time, the movie script was made in way for the audience to make us believe who was the bad guy according to the clue a character would find... but in the end... in was all the opposite? That's what I mean. The movie script will play "mind games" with you guys so you will put your time to try to figure who is right and who is wrong... and this my friend... is "Déjà vu" and I'm kinda tired of these "mind games script" made by the script writer. Like seriously, it wasn't anymore about the movie... it was about "thinking" who was right and who was wrong... therefore... takes away the feeling of watching a movie... it was like... almost like... Sherlocks Holms and Desperate Housewives + Saw ( horror movie ) + Scream all mixed together. Don't believe me? Watch it for yourself and you'll see. Lol 3. I also didn't like the ending... omg... I was so disappointed... like seriously disappointed... Omg... all of you will hate the ending "guaranteed". I'm not gonna say why... but I'll give you a clue. What is J. J. Abraham known for? I won't say more. But unfortunately... the ending was so bad I was like... what da hell... that's it? Some of you might ask... does it have to do anything with The original Cloverfield movie? I would say... yes and no. But mostly no. It was more like... a scratch of Cloverfield... but with a big U-Turn to something else. Well, nobody applauded at the end of the movie... which kinda confirms my thoughts about it. 4. The sound effect... OMG... be ready for some Jumpy parts... not because of the acting or the scene... but because of the abused SOUND EFFECTS implemented in almost every freaking scene when you least expect it... sometimes... the sound was so loud I almost choked my chocolate almonds... I mean... seriously... be ready for some hardcore last minute BOOM sound effect just to spook you... wasn't even a scary part... they just wanted parts to scare you... as in suppose to be a dramatic-thriller kinda movie I guess... but it didin't work... no... it didn't. One time the sound was so loud I screamed like a girl and omg... people beside got scared of me more then the movie itself lol. So yea, the reason I believe they did that, is the same reason I said before "Déjà Vu" special effect to spook you although it wasn't even scary at all... not even gory for Christ sake. The soundtrack was good... but has nothing to do with the scenes or the movie itself... as you keep watching the movie, you will realized it was almost a "comedy" more than a thriller-drama movie... like seriously... you watch it and see for yourself. 5. Too many jokes... sorry J. J... but the joke parts out of the blue when it supposed to be a thriller... killed it... yup... it's like watching Star Wars all over again... and suddenly... you see Jar Jar Bink coming in for no reason to say. Hey what's up boys! Did you guys killed everyone yet? Hey hey!" like really? Too many jokes. Not good for a thriller. Really not good. 6. Again, the ending... omg... I was so disappointed... I even stood until the end to see if they was gonna be a special ending "JUST" to give me a reason to believe it was worth watching... but nope. No special ending. Great. Now, without giving away any spoiler, the ending was like... how can I say this... watching "The Sign" + Alien + Battle L. A. + Jerry Springer in a baiting suit saying " Hey! Am I in a comedy show or what? " all mixed together!! Ya know what I mean? Wow... I gave you some clues just before ( sorry, but I had to say it ) Now, about the special effect, hmmm, I was good... but again... DÉJÀ VU... everything is DEJA VU except the idea of being in a bunker... that's it that's all. Omg... I so want to tell you what happened in the end... omg... arghhh... I don't want to say it... I don't want to say it... arghhh... ok... I will say one little thing…  Spoiler alert - click to reveal textThe reaction of Michelle when she saw what she saw... was plain dumb... that's it. The whole reaction on her face when she saw what she saw... was so... lame... lost all credibility right there. BOOM. Lost here. Down to 6 on 10. And what she did to get away ( from what happen when she saw what she saw ) was sooo... lameee... omg... omg... omg… I'm sorry... when you guys watch it, you will feel the same way I guarantee it. Well, that's about it, overall, I really like the actors play as they were VERY credible in their respective role. But again, if you expect a lot of action... guns... battle... you will be disappointed. If you like to "figure out" who is right and "who" is wrong the whole time to be deceived because the movie script played you for a fool the whole time... then yea... you might like it. Is it worth to watch it on a saturday night? NO. Definitely no. I would watch this movie on a Tuesday night. Yup. Half price would be worth it ( if there is nothing else to watch of course.) Unless you are a big fan of Mary Elizabeth Winstead, then... perhaps, you might "really" like it... and yes, she is SEXY. Yes, wow, her body is so... hmmm... so... so... I don't know... the whole time she wears tight jeans and I was like... ohhh... yeaaa... haha! Well, there it is, I give a big 6.5 on 10... and again I AM BEING VERY GENEROUS. Trust me. They call me the Movie Freak for a reason. I watch everything, I've seen everything, I've everything... I am the one and only... YOU'RE only... The Movie... Freak. Cheers. ( PS: By the way don't get me wrong, I hope I will get to see all the actors again in other movies as they were really good in their roles... yea, that's it.) chika chikaaa...
