10 Cloverfield Lane directed by Dan Trachtenberg is only slightly connected with J. J. Abrams's Cloverfield of 2008. It is by no means a sequel or even close to one. There are many rewards to be had from this new feature. The three occupants of the bunker give above average performances: a disconcerting John Goodman is brilliant; M. E. Winstead is one hell of a spunky woman while John Gallagher Jr. is astonishing as the shelter's third resident. The pacing of this thriller is spot on with smartly chilling jolts when necessary and a pretty impressive finale.
