This is a better remake than some have played out and Jude Law is the perfect choice for this setting. His tongue-in-cheek recollections are both humourous and biting as he comes to the self-realization that he is a schmuck and he does have a conscience after all. This plays out on other levels that younger viewers should realize that we are all haunted by our decisions and actions. Others have called it depressing but one can't be depressed if they begin to see a truth about themselves that makes them a better and socially accountable contibution to society. Alfie's epiphany is subtle and tactfully placed. Slow starting film but intriguing. Hasn't anyone considered the reality about the women portrayed in this film? It does say something about the searching that both genders Long for in our hurting coexistance and interdependancy for "true love".
