    Alien

When "Alien" came out in '79 there was so much hype about it, it was hard to know if this film could live up to the expectations it was giving off. The trailer for "Alien" said," In Space Nobody Can Hear You Scream" which summed it up pretty well because "Alien" is probably the scariest Sci-Fi movie ever made. It starts off pretty slowly as we drink in all of the eye candy and then starts moving along at a pretty good clip. Ridley Scott draws us into the story by showing us glimpses of the Alien terror stalking the crew but never really shows us the creature fully which builds up the suspense even more. Although the movie is shot in color there are elements of"film noire" in it. The creature designed by H. R. Giger is like nothing we have ever seen before, a monster created from our worst nightmares. The cast is superb, Sigourney Weaver as Ripley is wonderful and completely believable as is the monster. This is Science Fiction at it's best. An Academy Award winner for best special effects and most deservedly so. Totally original.
