The true life events in the life of " Angela's Ashes" author Frank McCourt is astounding for its stark reality and pain, pain for his family in total destitution. The film is often hard to witness, but it beckons you to watch to learn of the misery of many Irish families during the mid thirties. Robert Carlyle as the drunken husband is compelling but Emily Watson is the heart ans soul of the film. A great film from Alan Parker.
