Almost a 'film noir thriller' (1975) this delicious adaptation of hard boiled Detective Marlowe in the execution of his several dangerous missions in the underbelly of 1940's Los Angles is a treasure. As the plot thickens expect more and more sinister turns as various aspects of the action begin to connect and collide. It's a super Marlowe film in every respect. The ambiance and creation of 40's L. A. is on a very high level. The screenplay could not be any better. Robert Mitchum gives one of his very best later life performances as the detective. The young Charlotte Rampling is fascinating, John Ireland is his usual dependable self and SYLVIA MILES never ceases to intrigue in a smaller role that seems to have been tailor made for her. Her scenes are mesmerizing. Check out this particular 70's Marlowe flick. You won't regret it.
