I did catch a viewing of LOST HORIZON on Turner not too long ago. It is evident that Frank Capra wanted to create a real masterpiece from this famous, old novella. There is much to admire in the film, but it does eventually sink into an interminable series of vignettes about the mythical city of Shangri-La from which it seems impossible to escape. Too lofty in its ambition. It was not taken to heart like other Capra films during the thirties and was a bit of a disappointment for Columbia Studios who sank a ton of doe in its filming.
