    Oliver Twist

Though this upteenth version of Oliver Twist has some merit, Roman Olanski doesn't do that much justice to it, perhaps because he fails to comprehend fully this completely English yarn. Barney Clark as Oliver is passable, but I wasn't to keen on the Fagin of Sir Ben Kingsley. There have been much finer Fagins in the past including the musical version of 1968 with Ron Moody. When one reflects on the stunning late 1940's David Lean production of Oliver Twist, no other Twist production can ever live up to the glory of that cinematic event. I don't know why so many producers and directors keep filming it. Nothing more definitive can come of this great story which had its pinnacle in the 1940's.
