    Radio Days

RADIO DAYS, Woody Allen's nostalgic piece from 1987 is pure homage to the 1930's and 40's when radio was an American institution, every major Hollywood star vying to be part of that fantastic medium. It's Woody at his génial best though the film is rarely discussed in the same breath with his masterpieces. Woody decided to make the film with no big name stars, the biggest star being Julie Kavner who was well known through the late 60's, 70's and 80's. This very fact could account for the very few who even know of the film's existence. The entire comedy centres around the life of a close knit N. Y. family, its ups, downs and in between times with characters of true flesh and blood, characters who Woody could well have known as a young man. It was pure joy viewing this truly remarkable feature that focused on various family dynamics. I was especially taken with the Kavner character with her "near" desperation on dating and finding love. If Woody's films are important to you, RADIO DAYS IS A MUST SEE FEATURE! It's a gem!
