This historical film on young Salvatore Giuliano is a must see especially for those of Italian descent as it deals with themes... the separation of Sicily from the rest of the Italian peninsula, a fact about which hardly anyone knows so many years after the facts occurred. It's obvious the Italian government suppressed all such information as it has never been studied or even approached into post grad studies in Italian. The film often seems semi-documentary in nature with a narrator that comes in at will. Though the material fascinated me, I was not too impressed by the style or filming of famed director Francesco Rosi! This could have been a knockout film with the explosive material at hand yet it is filmed from a point of view that rather bothered me. It seemed a lot longer than the 2 hours+. By the way, the young Salvatore Giuliano was killed by the age of 23. All another sad chapter in the violent, unpredictable history of Sicily with Mafia connections widespread!
