Shadow of a Doubt was Alfred Hitchcock's own personal favourite movie, a movie that almost defies description, but one that will keep you on your tows. It is a stunning film with strong character portraits especially from the not so amiable Joseph Cotton, who should have received an Oscar Nomination for this underplayed role of the uncle and the young Teresa Wright who is just right as the naive niece who comes to know too much. The supporting players are wondrous, especially Patricia Collinge as the mother, nominated for her role in The Little Foxes and Hume Cronyn, who can't get to first base with Teresa Wright. This particular early Hitchcock should be required viewing for any and all film students. I recommend it to all! I can see this film over and over and it remains ever fresh as entertainment and suspense!
