"The Dark Knight" successfully builds on the solid base established by "Batman Begins" and continues to explore the complex ideas introduced in the first film. It's filled with several sub plots and events that could individually make a thrilling film (the bank heist at the very beginning for example) and it's not only a great adaptation of a comic book, it's a great thriller. The performances are excellent, the characters are unforgettable, it's got some great action sequences, several iconic and memorable scenes with great quotes and it's also a very intelligent movie. There's more to this than just a battle between Batman and The Joker, so if you think you’ve seen it all because you saw the old Nicholson/Michael Keaton movie, think again. I think that’s my favourite thing about Batman, and about this movie, how there are so many different ways to interpret the characters and so many different layers you can examine on their own, or in addition to the others. You might feel the running time a little, but you won't care because you'll never want to leave your seat. "The Dark Knight" is a terrific film, whether you're a fan of the character or not, you won't be disappointed by this complex thriller. (On Blu-ray, August 2, 2012)
