The story of the NASA and its Mercury astronaut program is very eye opening to say the least. The Right Stuff basically shows what it takes to be an astronaut in a very entertaining way. If not the best movies on this subject then one of the best. The year it came out, it bombed at the box office because the Challenger explosion happened when it came out and that horrific incident was fresh in the minds of the movie going public (Challenger rocket exploded on liftoff killing 7 astronauts) It is too bad because The Right Stuff was excellent. It was also a star making vehicle for Ed Harris, Scott Glenn and Dennis Quaid.
