Streisand's musical set in the turn of 20th Century Eastern Europe. The film is based on a short story by Isaac Bashevis Singer which teases the audience with homoerotic and transgender undercurrents. Singer disowned the movie. It is such an over blown star power trip with star Streisand singing every song in the score despite a fine co-star in Mandy Patinkin and others. I sort of liked it at first but on a recent second viewing, I was turned off how self-indulgent Streisand has always been.
