This movie pulls no punches. Not since the slaughter in the square in the film Ghandi have the Brits looked like such bastards on film. And it's about right too. Funny thing about Ireland, most of the Irish are either from somewhere else or have gone there, even Dubliners, truth be told are a bunch of Vikings, so how come they are so bloody Irish. Must be something in the water back there. The film makes much of colonial repression and Irish patriotism succeeding where compromise -- the English would call it common sense fail, but spares time for the devasting impact of such high flown fancies on the common men and women. This movie will do wonders for the Irish tourist trade -- everybody will want to see for themselves the hills outside Dublin and the west country. Today this country is, for the first time ever, richer per capita than most European countries. So go see what these brave lads were fighting for. Its just arrived --- some seven decades later.
