Investment is the word for this millennium, which, contrary to popular belief, started 12 days ago. So far this year, I can truly say that my best investment was shelling out 9 $ on a Saturday afternoon to see Steven Soderbergh's latest directorial release, Traffic. Not since the documentary "Grass" have I seen such brilliant criticism of America's war on drugs and not since "Schindler's List" have I withheld bodily functions for such a long period of time in order to ensure a pleasurable movie-going experience. A movie of this caliber deserves to be watched twice over for a few reasons. One, Benicio Del Toro. Two, Soderbergh's use of light is nothing less than ingenious, especially the use of sunlight in the scenes set in Mexico. Three, Ohio State Chief Justice turned anti-drug czar, played by Douglas, gives us a true perspective of the federal point of view, even while masking his own daughter's addiction problems. And four, reality makes great movies. Every single aspect is completely credidle. One can only hope that this movie is shown to all Drug Enforcement Agency personnel in order to make them realize that they are fighting fire with fire. The demand will always be there!!!
