Uganda is the battlefield of one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world, as a two-decade-long war continues between the Ugandan government and a rebel group. Taking a sharp look at the political stakes of war, the film follows people whose daily lives have been affected by the conflict: a mother who became an activist when her daughter was kidnapped; a young girl who must walk dozens of kilometres daily to find a safe place to sleep at night; a grandmother forced to spend the rest of her days at a squalid camp. Constructed without narration, the film gives voice to the participants in a sensitive and respectful manner. Catherine Hébert has made a powerful and aesthetically accomplished work that show what things are like for a population struggling with a bloody war and a complicit government.
