This is not the sing-a-long version. The heroine, Maria (Julie Andrews), is a high-spirited young novitiate in an Austrian mountain convent, sent to Von Trapp's Salzburg house as a governess. She proceeds to disrupt the house's militaristic discipline and mold the Captain (Christopher Plummer)'s seven children into a formidable singing group. But it's the late '30s, and the nearby Nazi tide is rising; they have to flee.
