First of all, I love Giamatti as an actor. For me however, a very unattractive little bearded fat man hitting on a remarkably beautiful young woman at his own wedding, saying nothing remotely charming and yet somehow leaving a positive impression on her, simply cannot work for me. I'm sure there is a world full of bearded little fat men with no positive skills in civil or at least decent human behavior who'd like to believe this is ever possible but I'm going to boldly state, only if she needs your money! This woman didn't need his money so the entire premise of the main romance just doesn't work logically. On a separate note, though the actors were all excellent in playing the roles written for them but even Giamatti isn't good enough to pull this character off. I'm left assuming the book was far more convincing as someone decided it needed making into a movie. I could have left half way through had I known my friends felt the same way.
