Catfish

It's not for everyone. For me it was a good bit better than 3 stars but my assumption is many people won't appreciate the fact that this is handy cam work beginning to end. At first it just seemed like it would be like a cheap home movie with people no more interesting than those I already know. But to their credit, the fellas who put this show together hit on some very interesting developments and characters before all was said and done. For my friend and I it even created an interesting discussion on whether it was all scripted or real. Turns out it was in fact real. I thought the situation that developed was handled with some genuine human decency where there was certainly an option to go more for mean spirited shock value. I especially appreciated this aspect of the handling of the whole situation. In the end the movie turns out to be a bit of a commentary on loneliness and the things one woman did to cope with the harsh reality of the life she has chosen as well as how, what you think you see often isn't what you get when making friends and lovers online.
